Y-NOT Racing started with a simple dream: stop watching from the beaches and start racing.
For years, hydroplane racing was something we followed from the shoreline. We watched the boats, listened to the engines, talked about the racing and wondered what it would take to become part of it. Like a lot of fans, it was easy to think the people in the cockpits must have started in a completely different world.
But every racer started somewhere.
The question changed.
At some point, “what would that be like?” became a more useful question:
Why not?
Why not learn? Why not ask experienced people for help? Why not let family and friends be part of the work? Why not show another longtime fan that there can be a path from the fence to the pits?
That question gave the team its name because it captures the attitude we want to carry through the whole journey. It does not mean ignoring risk or pretending preparation does not matter. It means refusing to let being new become a reason not to begin.
More than a boat name.
Y-NOT is a reminder to chase the dream carefully, honestly and together. The team is made up of working people, parents, friends and fans. We will have more questions than answers at first. That is part of the point.
We hope the story becomes bigger than how Y-16 finishes. If someone sees a new team learning in public and realizes there may be a place for them in hydroplane racing — as a fan, volunteer, crew member or future driver — then this beginning has already mattered.
